World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization that works with children, families, and communities worldwide to help diminish causes of injustice and poverty. The non-profit organization provides help families in several ways. First they provide emergency assistance to children and families affected by natural disasters as well as civil conflict. Secondly, they work with communities to develop long-term solutions to improve poverty. Last but not least the organization works as an advocate for justice for the poor.
World Vision has A Facebook page with over one million visits and roughly 7,000 likes. Their twitter account has almost 400,000 followers and a YouTube page yielding 5,000 subscribers and over 1 million views. In my research I found that Their Facebook page hasn’t been updated in about a year or so. Twitter seems to be the platform they use regularly to spread the word about their organization and to get donations. The Twitter page promotes any and every celebration or day of importance that deals with children internationally. Also they promote their YouTube videos through Twitter. While twitter seems to be their most positive and useful social media platforms, there are some instances when problems were found for this outlet
Back in March of this year, there was controversy for World Vision when they decided to lift the ban on hiring people in same sex marriages. After many supporters of the organization took to Twitter to show their disapproval of the ban, World Vision decided to put a ban back on employing those in same sex marriages. Some supporters threatened that they would stop funding World Vision and end sponsorship if the ban wasn’t reinstated, so in response World Vision president Richard Stearns and board chairman Jim Bere immediately appeased the supporters by banning it once again.
