After watching the Google hangouts this week I determined that I am extremely interested in the Doctors without Borders campaign. I believe that this foundation is very strong and serves so many under privileged children through their work that it is incredible. The main purpose of this post is to grasp a social media concept with one of the following: Doctors without Borders or clarity for water. Both of these foundations are inspiring and make individuals want to contribute.
One of the social media campaigns that I thought was very influential and provided me with a lot of knowledge was the Instagram account for Doctors without Borders. Instagram in this day and age provides the public with stories through pictures. By doing so this helps people become a part of the foundation or cause through images. Doctors without Borders has been a organization since 1971 it provides help to those who are less fortunate in other countries and also tells the stories of those who they have helped. With over 42,000 followers on Instagram this app really allows people to get involved with what Doctors without Borders has been so eagerly trying to prove.
Millions have been treated thanks to these doctors and continue to receive help along the way. The images on this Instagram account are jaw dropping. The pictures are not only captivating images to look at but provide a story underneath that allows the viewer to become a part of what's happening. This kind of social media outreach really allows the public to have a clear understanding of what Doctors without borders really aims to achieve. Underneath most of the pictures on the Instagram account will provide a link or a option for donation in order to help these individuals seen in the pictures. Without the visual component many individuals wouldn't really understand the entire reason for why these doctors do what they do. Although sometimes these images can be hard to look at just because a lot of people are uninformed as to what's happening in other countries they definitely give us a sense of hope that the lives of these individuals are getting better.
Each one of these pictures underneath has either a hashtag or some kind of link that allows the viewer to become interactive with the app. The hashtags will sometimes read #Haiti or #Ebola these are just some examples as to what kinds of social media outreach there has been over this one specific app. With the help of these hashtags it really involves more than just the Instagram community but also the community of other social media outputs. I think that Doctors without Borders has done an amazing job at providing information for the public to view and not only get us interested but also gets us wanting to contribute.
