I chose to take a look at the Make A Wish Foundation’s Instagram page for this discussion. I think that they have one of the more successful and accessible Instagram pages out there. I think what makes it seem so well structured is the great use of meaningful images tied in with a brief yet detailed caption below the image. They use their Instagram account to tell the stories of the people that they have helped, raise awareness about themselves and the problems the make a wish kids face. I think that they do a pretty good job of tagging people and locations, which is important, however, they are somewhat inconsistent. I do think that they could use more tags to help spread the word about the organization because while some are done nicely, others completely lack tags. I think the tags would not only be helpful spreading the information to more people but also be helpful in the description of each event they do.
Their goal through social media is to tell stories and be more engaging, entertaining, and interesting in their journey to make an impact. They have been attempting to do so through celebrity engagement, quotes, and posting about the wish kid of the day among other things. They also have moving first person stories which really allow for viewers to grasp what it is the organization is able to accomplish every and how meaningful their work is to those making the wishes. In addition they have been able to do research of their own through integrated tracking. This allows for them to see how people use their social media pages by showing what bits of information people look at, share, like or comment on. The reason this is so valuable is because it allows for them to tailor their social media pages toward the masses that use their sites and gives them insight of how to improve certain things as well as what things to keep the way they are. Ultimately the Make A Wish Foundation wants to generate content that sparks interactions that in turn develop into trusting relationships between themselves and the public.
On Instagram they were able to get people to post about 16,000 pictures for a single event that they did a while back. This event was a kids wish to save the city as batman and there were over 20,000 people in attendance to make the event happen all because of social media.
