The American Lung Association is a national non-profit that some people might not be as familiar with in relation to other non-profits. ALA works closely with other non-smoking organziations to spread the word about how important the prevention of smoking is. The use of research within this organization is the main way that they come through with their main goal of inproving lung health and understanding how to live an all around cleaner life when it comes to your lungs. The organization makes it known to communities around the world about the harm that smoking can do to our earth and mankind in general. The main goal of this great organization to save lives, reduce smoking and to keep the air that we breath clean and easy to breath. When it comes to the social media for this organization, it is relied on heavily by this organization particulariyl because it is donation based and part of the donation is getting people to donate their time and energy into a great cause, so getting the word out is crucial. You can see this when visiting their Facebook & Twitter accounts, the followers are very high and the contact is constant.
When it comes to their visual social media platforms, my favorite has to be their YouTube page. Even though there is only just over 500 subscribers that is a good amount for a YouTube channel. NPTechForGood wrote a great article about the top 5 non-profits that are really utilizing YouTube as a social media platform. The article goes on to talk about how YouTube sets the interface up to be totally non-profit friendly with things like Live Streaming, Video Annotations, Call-to-action overlays and Google Wallet Donate button. Unfortuntley, the American Lung Association is not exactly utilizing these tools completely but do have some great compelling videos which would lead people to the website to get more information about donations and volunteer work. I think it is a simple step to take to just add some of the interactive tools to their youtube page because from looking at it, there is some good engagement and lots of views on the videos. The social media platforms espeically visual ones are mentioned a lot in a blog to collaborate and connect all the lung cancer and foundations under a single hash tag #LCSM. This gives insight to how successful and how many people are talking about one organization in regards to another.
When it comes to other non profits, I think that The American Lung association can improve greatly and has the room to have a successful visual platform and could really gain some great donations just based on the tweaking of their YouTube channel.
