The American Red Cross actually is very active when it comes to social media. They have a surprisingly well put together vine account and even a great strategy, with their hashtag #clarancebarton which is the name of a little stick figure man who represents the RC. That being said, the only thing this stick figure really does is give tips and reminders of what to do in disasters, which may be very helpful in desperate times but doesn't really talk about what the RC does.
Their instagram is slightly lacking unfortunately, I was hoping to see everything they were lacking from their vine account to be put here. You would expect such a huge organization like the RC to want to post as many pictures and would want to get the word out on what they were doing. I also took a look at followers and compared them to Charity Water and their instagram has over 226,000 followers while the RC has just short of 10,000, which also may say something to their cultivation of followers.
The Sales Force Marketing Cloud, a highly regarded global computing company that works mainly through the cloud, stated that the RC responds to roughly 70,000 disasters a year, and according to the RC themselves they have high hopes for social media and think that "listening" to social media with a product called Radian6. The RC should really pay better attention to their social media platforms. All of them, even smaller ones they have like their vine or their instagram.
