I think the most important thing i've learned in this class is how to use social media formats. Previous to taking this class, I had never used Twitter or Instagram. I had heard of the apps and had many friends that used them, but I just never saw the purpose behind them. But after getting accustomed to the programs I have to say I'm glad I learned to use them. I guess I'm finally in the 21st century. But the knowledge I'm taking away from this class is more than just knowing my around Twitter, I think I'll be able to use these mediums for future use in my advertising career. In my other advertising classes only casual mentions of social media are made. I'm not sure why this seems to be an ignored topic in my studies so far.
I think the biggest challenge I encountered in this course was engaging my team members solely through technological means. It was tough staying on the same page when we never met in person. Luckily, we had someone in our group who managed to take charge from the get-go. However, I didn't feel like I always knew what my other group members had in mind for the things like our group presentation. I'm definitely glad we were able to construct a social media campaign. I think that was probably the most informative thing we did in this class. I'm a strategic advertising major and I think having experience creating campaigns is going to be very useful knowledge. Another thing I struggled with was keeping up with the Twitter posts. Usually I remembered to make a daily post but I forgot from time to time. I really enjoyed the Google Hangouts, it was cool hearing the experiences of real world professionals. I'm really glad we were able to help charities.
