In this six week course I can honestly say I learned a great deal about the effects social media can have on organizations and businesses. I always knew that organizations wanted to have a good presence on social media but through this course I learned the approach they use to achieve a good presence on social meadia. I always assumed that if something is trending or popular then it is a successful campaign on social media but after this course I realize that isn't always the case. To be successful on social media you have to be able to find the correlation between what you are trying to achieve as a business or organization and if your social media presence is the cause or not. I was also unaware of how important it is for non-profit organizations to have an engaging and easily accessible social media presence. We learned from Smile Train that they believe the more engaged they are with people who follow them on Twitter the easier it is to raise donations and awareness. We as a group wanted to emulate the same concept when developing our social media campaign and realized how difficult it was to engage an audience. In this six week course I learned a lot about the inner workings of nonprofit organizations and how they have to utilize social media as a form of providing information to a mass audience.
As for my experience in the class I can definitely say it was frustrating to say the least. As a group most of us were working full time so meeting in person was extremely difficult. We utilized Facebook as our primary source of communication, it proved to not be as efficient as we had hoped. Most of our group members did not meet face to face until week four which put us very far behind. As the coursed came to an end we as group really got our act together and got all the work we needed to get done finished. We did encounter a problem when we were unable to get in contact with one of the group members and ended up putting our entire six weeks on the line. We pulled together as a team and picked up the slack to finish the project on time. As team we all had unique talents to contribute which I believe made a great campaign for our client.
