My experience in this class has been a rocky one. I feel this class was both challenging and necessary. Taking this course not only educated me on how global health nonprofits use social media, but how worthwhile and impactful studying social media strategies and behavior truly is. At first, I was intimidated by the workload of this course. I was not and avid Tweeter or Grammer? before this class. I let my personal experiences on social media influence my opinion of it's importance. Just because social media is not an integral part of my life, does not make social media a powerful tool for organizations and businesses. Posting daily with enthusiasm and originality was tough, so I felt the struggle organizations would have, especially with limited resources. I learned the internet is a portal to global communication. The reach is multiplied to the nth degree when your message is disseminated digitally. Another important lesson I learned was through having to come up with a campaign strategy with a group via internet communication. This assignment opened my eyes to the reality of these circumstances in the professional world. Responding timely is a courtesy I adopted after experiencing tardy responses to my own efforts of communication. Realizing that even if you are not typically one to take the lead on projects, you must take initiative when no one else is willing. I truly think that I do benefit from this project. Mostly because after all the research I conducted, I'd be a fool not to take more time to fine tune and create a truly cohesive social media campaign to include in my professional advertising portfolio. Digital media is taking over traditional media in the Advertising industry. Learning the ins and outs of social media strategies is critical to my future career.
