My experience in this course was a positive one, and I think one of the major takeaways I have is to pay attention (on a global scale) to what is going on. I do think that if it weren’t for this course, I wouldn’t have learned how to better utilize social media and to get the word out regarding different organizations and what they intend on accomplishing.
This course definitely helped me to better understand the Ebola crisis, and although it is terrible disease that is affecting those in the United States, it served as a true and accurate example on why global health is important. For the sake of this course, it happened at an appropriate time – I learned to pay attention to my surroundings, and understand that although I have not been personally affected, it is hurting others around the world.
The most challenging aspect of the course was that it was only six weeks. I do think that it was hard to accomplish the social media campaign and do a decent job in such a short length of time, and if anything the course was much more demanding because of how short it was. But, it also told me to be aware of deadlines I have and that in the real world, sometimes you may only have six weeks to prepare for a task or an event.
If I had the chance to take this course over again, I definitely would. It made me appreciate my last semester here at VCU, as well as the diversity we have at this university judging by the different students in the course. I have a new perspective on life and really think that from the articles I’ve read and discussions I had to engage with, it is all information I will be able to take with me into my future career.
