Where to begin with the six week grueling class; that I have adored! I think this class really helped put into perspective real life social media. I've been studying social media ever since freshman year of college since I'm a mass communications major, but never have I experienced a class where I had to actively use social media every day to learn about it.
What was challenging for me was breaking into a new social media. We all have use Facebook and I love Instagram, but I have never gotten into Twitter. With this class I was forced to get into Twitter and it really opened my eyes when it comes to microblogging. I used to think Twitter was just for people who felt it important to update the world about their day-to-day lives, but really Twitter is the world’s breaking news source. You can search any hashtag you can think of and get instant results about that topic. Think Twitter for my professional life, if I continue to go into social media, will benefit me greatly because of this class. Using it allows instant connectivity and with using hashtags consistently, you can really write a complete blog all in 120 character increments and a hashtag.
Finally, using social media has ready brought to light the use of photography for me. When you're working with a company or an organization you have to be really focused on what that picture says. I can't just take a picture of something and expect a hundred million likes, thought has to be put into that photo even if another photo will replace it in three hours.
Social media emphasizes living in the moment because once that moment is gone is a piece of history. With that history we learn where we are going as a society and that we as a civilization are truly generous people.
