I registered for this class this semester because our society is becoming more and more involved in social media every day. I am a media studies and business interdisciplinary major and I want to be well rounded in every platform available to the business world. Global health was not the first topic I would have chosen, however, I learned a lot about nonprofits as a business, as well as how health on a global scale affects 1st and 3rd world countries. I realize this is considered an accelerated semester work load but I really felt the deadlines were condensed a little too much. The social media engagement was completely relevant and I found that I learned something new about each platform. Due to the multiple platform engagement I did find myself neglecting one over another. The google hangouts were very informative and I really enjoyed working with an actual nonprofit organization. The chance for someone to actually use our ideas was a great way to keep me engaged. I am much more aware of the nonprofits goals and business models not only on social media platforms but others as well. I did with have so much due is a week I was struggle with watching more than one google hangout in a day. They seemed to run almost an hour each. I have never been a part of an online class that had so much engagement with my peers. I was interesting in understanding how it would all work. It really was a pleasure working with my group and found that we each could bring something to the group that helped the campaign come together. I would certainly take a class with this structure again. I really felt I took some valuable information away with me in this class.
