This semester I learned a lot from the class “Global Health and Social Media”. This six week course explained more in depth the baseline knowledge I already had about how to use social media. It was interesting to me how closely the knowledge I received from this class helped me do well in my other classes for my advertising major. Most of my other classes talk about social media; the discussions and lectures from this course helped me have a quick understanding of ways in which to change a clients social media campaign and make sure it could reach its full potential.
What I enjoyed most about this six week, online class was the use of the discussion boards. Though at first the discussion boards were hard to understand and we all had technical problems, once we had the hang of things I felt like it was easy and interesting to communicate with others in the class and see the ideas they had. I also enjoyed all the research we did on organizations around the world that were focused on the health sector. I feel as if I now have a firmer grasp on what it takes to run social media platforms for organizations that are doing well and want to be in the public eye. I picked up many important habits that organizations have when making decisions on social media.
What I found to be the most challenging about this class was the group work. It was hard to find times to meet with other group members fro a class that I understood to be just and online class. Group work was difficult when everyone had specific schedules that they could not change. All in all the group work turned out very well though; I just believe group work for an online class is a strange way to do things and difficult to make work without a meeting time each week.
Overall I think this class was well worth the time and taught me a lot more about social media.
