I learned the skills you need to have and information you need in order to have a successful social media campaign. I hadn’t really paid much attention to the role of social media in any other things except my personal life. (I did see some social media campaigns occasionally on television.) I learned there was more to social media than just shares, likes and retweets. How to plan a successful fundraiser and the proper ways to measure social media engagement data were other skills I acquired while in this class.
I don’t think any part of the class was challenging. If anything it would be remembering to meet every deadline on time, or remembering to complete an assignment. But in hindsight I see that the deadlines were there to show us what it would be like in the real world. However, I looked at this class as an opportunity to learn some new things that I could apply to internships/jobs I might have in the future.
One small critique would be working in a group. Although my members were very hard working and easy to communicate with, I prefer to work alone. I enjoy working at my own pace and doing things my way, so having to accommodate other people isn’t always easy.
The Google Hangouts were a great tool utilized throughout the course. It gave the students direct communication with the communications directors of our clients so we could tailor our campaigns exactly to their needs.
As abovementioned, I am confident that I can carry these skills with me to a job or internship. There is a steady rise in demand for social media interns everywhere, due to the growing awareness of social media.
Overall the class was a great learning experience that allowed me to gain some useful skills for today’s world.
