Before this course I wasn’t aware of the involvement of social media in global health. I was able to learn about different organizations that I had no idea existed while also helping once of the great non-profits mentioned – Preemptive Love Coalition. I was able to work together with colleges and get first hand experience in creating and implementing a marketing strategy. The course requested a lot of involvement, which I believe portrayed a lot of real-world application. If doing this in real-time, not virtually, the work requested makes sense. The social media aspect of this course clearly displayed what is to micro-blog and to do more than just retweet or post meaninglessly. While I was I was involved with the micro-blogging I found myself become more interested in how global health and social media integrate. I think there is great benefit from taking this course. It provided me with a lot of experience with involvement with a real non-profit organization, strategy, communication, as well as group work. I particularly liked how this course allowed us to research our own organizations as well. This allowed me to be able to pick whom I wanted to research in conjunction with learning about other organization. I have learned quite a bit about global health and it’s impact through social media. The involvement with Twitter and Instagram was a great way to involve myself with Preemptive Love Coalition. I would have liked more involvement with Instagram as I adhere more to visuals as pictures than tweets. I also would of involved different social media platforms as well. Possibly having a different platform for a different week. Overall, I think this course provided me with experience that I will not put on the back burner and forget. Even though this course was only 6-weeks I feel as if I learned so much in short amount of time and I will definitely be able to use the information I’ve learned through this course in the real world.
