Through out the course I have learned a lot and overall enjoyed my experience these past several weeks. The concept of the course is great and I thoroughly loved the Google Hangouts, both for the lectures and the interview sessions. To me, the individual course section was by far my favorite; venturing onto a different non-profit website/ social media platform each week was both educational and quite inspiring. In addition, I also liked being able to post through my media sites about the non-profit organization I was assigned to. What I found to be most difficult was group work. Group work is tough and I found it to be even tougher in this specific platform (online course).
Dividing the work amongst 5 people seemed to be a difficult task. Lucky for me, there were some leaders present in my group which helped to alleviate any awkwardness with who was going to do what. This helped to make this aspect of the course not as bad as I anticipated it to be. Oddly enough, these ladies have taught me effective ways to deal with group work and I do believe that this could be one of the many things I take away from this course.
In addition to learning some leadership skills, I don’t think I will ever visit a media site again without first thinking back on this course. There are some little facts that I have just stuck in my head and I see these sites with such potential now. I like advertising a lot and I do see the future becoming more technological thus moving advertising more and more to virtual platforms. Combining knowledge from this class with previous classes that I have taken here at VCU could help me succeed in my future career! Again, this was a great course overall and despite my doubts and worries, everything turned out rather well and I am glad I got to be a part of it.
