This course has taught me strategies to social media that I didn’t even know were a factor. I learned how to better market myself on social media because of this and am seeing an increase in my following. Specific strategies I use are making sure I’m engaged with my followers and create conversation; all this time I had been a random spurt tweeter. I see now that I have to be consistent on my social media platforms to maintain relevance. I am becoming a hashtag guru, and I see it giving me more visibility because I have people from everywhere engaging with me whether it be a “retweet” on Twitter or a “like” on a post on Instagram. I notice now that people do like to feel involved or apart of your life in a way that isn’t overbearing or repetitive, so I keep that in mind when choosing which content to put on my platforms. I follow this one magazine site and they tweet links to their story that first take you to Facebook, so annoying if I really wanted to help them I could tell them it isn’t a good strategy to link your Facebook to Twitter. However I see people link their Instagram to their Twitter all the time and the accessibility of the post makes it okay, I can still the picture without having to leave Twitter. I try to make sure all my Instagram posts are high quality photos because that’s a “cool point,” in the Instagram world if your photo looks professional. The most challenging part of this course was keeping up to date with the news articles because there is so much news happening all the time, which made me realize the importance of consistency for organizations like Charity Water. I see the importance of social media in campaigns because it’s a new innovative way to target different audiences based on the platform in use.
