This class was interesting but a lot more work than I expected. I’m glad that I got to experience using social media platforms that I otherwise wouldn’t have and it helped me gain an insight to those platforms but posting every day was very tough for me to do. I would find myself too busy with other classes, work, my internship, or other happenings in life and forget to post. Working with a group was interesting because I got to experience other people’s insights. Because this is an online course and members were selected randomly, there was literally not a single time when we all shared a free period. Scheduling meetings was hard and I think I did a lot more work than I should have because I was worried about getting a really poor grade on the final assignment. Eventually, though, I gave up on doing so much because it was affecting my other classes and my performance at work. I’m not sure how many people watched the videos but after watching four with technical and audio issues, I stopped watching them fully and just skimmed through them.
Overall, I think that this class was a good experience. I learned about social media and some of the research that I did was genuinely interesting. It made me consider working for and with nonprofits in the future. I do think that it will probably have a negative impact on my GPA because of those mandatory social media posts, but that’s more of an issue with my schedule and how much free time I don’t have in a day. I was never sure what the criteria for a twitter post was and I didn’t want to just throw up anything so many times I simply posted nothing. That class was an interesting experience that I would not recommend to friends – mostly because of how unstructured it seemed. I really do think that I gained a lot from this class, but I’m not sure that it was worth the stress I went through.
