In my time in Mass Communications 291, I enjoyed a tech savvy experience in just a short six week package. To me the class was very enjoyable as I like to consider myself a technologically proficient person. The all computer and social media based workload worked well with my schedule at times, and not so well with it at others. I did like how we could work at our own pace for the weekly assignments though. The daily tweeting and posting on Instagram did get to be a bit much but it did help to keep me actively focused on the non profit organizations we were studying. The Google Hangouts weren't a big favorite of mine, I would always usually watch the video of it back the next day and skip around to find information for my reflections. One thing that I did find very helpful was the readiness of Professor Messner and his teaching assistants to help me and all my classmates out whenever we needed it. They were always prompt with their responses to an e-mail or a post in the class Facebook group.
This class helped to delve into the world of Non Profit Organizations (more specifically ones from the health sector) and really see the good they can do for the world. Before my time in the class, I had little to no knowledge of any non profits or how they operated. The ability to be able to connect with key members of the non profits, whether it be the World Pediatric Project or Preemptive Love Coalition was a great treat. My project group was meant to focus on the WPP and I grew to love what they did, and in turn wanted to contribute to the cause myself. As a result of all the research conducted on the WPP, I plan to donate to them in the near future.
All in all MASC 291 was a great experience.
