For the third discussion I will talk about Breast Cancer Awareness. It is Breast Cancer Awareness Month so I thought it would be great to write a discussion on this subject. According to the website “National Breast Cancer” the foundation was founded in 1991 by a breast cancer survivor, Janelle Hail. Their foundation helps women all over by educating them on breast cancer and by offering free mammograms to women. Their mission is to help women who have been affect by breast cancer by providing them with information, help, encouragement, and hope. I think it’s a great non-profit organization. As a woman this is something that can happen to me and other women out there and it is helpful to be provided with information that I might not know about and to provide help with dealing with the aftermath.
I check out their Instagram page first. I was surprise to find out they did not have as many followers as I thought they would. I thought they would have at least a million followers since breast cancer awareness is a well-known non-profit organization. I notice they only have 6 posts. This account is not very active at all. I think they should post more pictures and inspirational quotes to help and inspire other women. Once I type breast cancer awareness in the search a lot of other accounts come up. I guess these are fan pages of breast cancer. Next I went to their Facebook page. They are popular on there. They had over 4 million likes. I notice that this page is very active and they post information almost every hour. This is probably one of the reasons why they have so my likes on Facebook because they promote breast cancer all the time. Last I went to Twitter and I was surprise again that their followers were low compare to Facebook. They have a little over 4,000 followers but the “Breast Cancer Site” has over 32.2k followers on Twitter. There are many accounts on Twitter about breast cancer and if it wasn’t for the check mark I would not be sure which account is real. I think the “Breast Cancer Awareness” Twitter account should definitely Tweet more often. They do not promote awareness as much as they should.
I found this article online talking about people changing their logos to support breast cancer. This is a great way to spread awareness. According to BCSM community they have chats online everyday about breast cancer #BCSM. This is another great platform using social media. One thing I want to point out is I notice a lot of company and stores promote breast cancer around this time of the year. I was in 711 yesterday and you could purchase hats, t-shirts, pens etc to support breast cancer. Also Designer Stella McCarthy and supermodel Kate Moss team up to promoted breast cancer by having Kate wear a pink bra. As you can see Breast Cancer is a well-known disease and there are many people out here trying to provide awareness.
