In this course I learned more about how to utilize social media with businesses and specifically nonprofits. I am currently interning at an ad agency and social media is often requested by clients as a service. I liked working in groups, but I found it hard to stay connected to some of the group members because it was an online course. I appreciated having the 360 survey, which encouraged some of the teammates to contribute appropriately. For those who didn’t contribute, it allowed for fairness. I wish other professors included the 360 evaluations as well because too often than not, do teammates get the same grade when it was not earned. It also helped to form a separate Facebook group page for my team to communicate.
I liked that we had an actual client that allowed an opportunity to add the work as a portfolio piece and resume’. I also appreciated having the Google handouts of professionals doing advertising in nonprofit associations. The Google Handouts inspired me to do another internship at a nonprofit before I graduate.
It was challenging switching from Blackboard to RamPages.
It was also challenging for me to tweet daily. I am not connected in the Twitter or Instagram world anymore so it forced me to create a digital footprint. Having to post daily also encouraged me to make connections and network. What I will take away from this course is the importance of making connections with social media users because that is how the majority of nonprofits brand themselves due to not having a big budget. I also learned that it is important to know how to communicated with a team online due to communication transitioning from in person to online based.
One thing I would have liked was being in contact with the doctors in Iraq and getting some insight into their daily life, surgeries, patients etc. I am happy to have worked with a nonprofit that supports a great cause.
