Before taking this course, I must admit that I never really thought about social media use for nonprofits. I always just assumed that it was a sort of low key, effortless process and that it wasn’t something that would take a team of people to do separately. I learned that having a cohesive social media campaign across multiple platforms is something that takes a lot of time and effort, especially if it wants to be successful.
The most challenging part of this course was definitely the group project. I feel as though I could have done this project on my own over the 6 weeks of the course and I would have come out with a better project. It’s not that I dislike my team members or that I do not value the work they did. It’s just that our final project seems exactly like one project done by five people instead of a single team. Some of my group members had trouble meeting our set deadlines and I ended up having to pick up the slack on their end.
Perhaps in the next semester you can let teams choose their members and make up teams for people who do not want to make a group of their own. That way, members have more control over their meetings and such. Still, most of us were able to meet together and crank out the final project, which was good. Despite the inconvenience it was cool to get to meet people that I otherwise would not have.
I do actually feel as though this course got me more interested in social media campaigns as a whole. I can definitely see myself working with social media in the future, especially because I do not see it as something that is going away any time soon. More and more agencies are going digital, so I feel as though this class opened up a window. I am happy with our final project and I feel as though it reflects all of the hard work that we put in for World Pediatric Project.
