My experience in this class started our great. I am very good at being organized so the first week was a cakewalk, because everything was on my time. I learned so much about social media and global health. It was when the group assignment came around that this class became very difficult for me to stay organized. I automatically became the team leader, and sent out game plans for each week. I also set guidelines and deadlines for my team, so there was some organization. At first it was difficult to get everyone on the same page but finally our group got the hang of it and it became easier. In the future when I am a working and I have to work on a team, I think this course has prepared me to be a team leader and understand how to work effectively and efficiently as a team member as well. At times I found this class to be very frustrating and difficult, but that’s how most classes are. I truly enjoyed all of the guest speakers during this course. I enjoyed hearing about their experience in the communications industry and how they got to working at nonprofits.
During the beginning of the course I was interviewed by the VCU public affairs department about this course. One fact that I expressed was my hope to gain experience with social media and health so I could be of more service to The Daily Planet. I think that I defiantly got a lot of good martial. Especially the lectures that went into detail about how to effectively use Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Another great resource was all of the Mashable articles about different social media platforms. I can now truly say I know how to use Twitter and Facebook to gain support, raise awareness, and build relationships.
Overall this class was challenging and stressful, but at the end of the day I learned a lot, and I have an awesome final social media campaign to add to my portfolio. I am happy to help out the World Pediatric Project, and I hope they found our work helpful as well.
