This semester in MASC 291 I learned many things about non-profit organizations and their social media interactions. I never had paid close attention to how complicated it is for these organizations to come up with the funds to run their health programs. Social media plays an important role in non-profit organizations for donations and to get people informed about their cause.
I felt that this class was quite challenging compared to my other 300 leveled classes. It was too time consuming listening to the Google Hangouts that were over 30 minutes. Some of the reflection assignments turned out to be repetitive so it was kind of hard trying to find new information to share with the posts. The most challenging part of this course was the assigned group project. It seemed impossible to get everyone to meet and usually when people take online courses it means they can not come on campus because of their busy schedules. Mostly everyone in the group was confused with what was expected from us in the project and there was not much direction in the group. Everyone waited until a few hours for the group reflections to be completed. I personally hated it. I would have just been happy completing some assignments by myself instead of relying on others. I believe the class would have still helped me without the extra group project.
The course has helped me be informed on non-profit organizations that close to home here in Richmond and some that are more global. Knowing that information gives me an opportunity to become a part of the change they want to make. I can donate money or even take it a step further and be a volunteer. I have learned to play close attention to organizations and see what social media strategies they are using. In the future I can see myself taking advantage of what I have learned in MASC 291.
