As the six weeks come to a quick end, I’m able to say that I have learned a lot in this course. I’m not even a Mass communications major but as an elective, it was a great class. I was able to learn all these different strategies that were so new to me. There were a lot of challenges in this class like being able to submit things on time, doing the comments for blog posts on time, and being sure to communicate with the group on time. I found it very hard to keep up with the social media engagement platforms like Twitter and Instagram. I don’t even use my Twitter and had deleted my old account before this class started but now I think I will keep it because I can implement a lot of trending topics by using hash tags. Hash tags are often misused and I’ve learned from this course what they actually need to be used for. I used Instagram more too throughout the six weeks. The campaign we worked for had wonderful pictures and it was fun sharing those pictures, of course giving them photo courtesy and all that. This class helped me gain knowledge about how global issues are really taken care of in the world of the internet across various social media platforms. The Ebola outbreak was a great big topic in this class and I got to learn about how Doctors without Borders helps those who are suffering in west Africa. It’s truly incredible to see how social media can help not only a global emergency but a social media emergency.
Last but not least, group work! My team was left with 5 people after one person dropped the course so more work load was added on to some people. Communicating with the group was the most ultimate struggle I faced. Our team started off pretty rough and we weren’t able to communicate well at all but we did pull through in the end. Majority of the work was done by three people in the group and usually it was last minute. I don’t have anything against anyone in the group but that’s just my opinion of how the work wasn’t evenly distributed. Overall, my experience with this class was great. As a suggestion for the future, I think groups should be much smaller. It gets very chaotic in an online class that has to communicate ONLINE when everyone has a crazy schedule.
