My experience in this course was interesting. I learned about a lot of non-profit organizations and what it takes for them to exceed and fulfill their missions. I enjoy volunteering so I plan to do so for organizations such as the ones we learned about throughout the course. I’m actually surprised at the amount of information I was able to learn and retain in this class. Normally takes me awhile to grasp certain concepts and be able to apply them. I liked that everything we were taught for this class was necessary to everything from participation to executing strategies for the non-profit clients. In most mass communications classes I've taken, I wasn't able to demonstrate what I learned or what I’m capable of achieving, and this class allowed me to do so.
One thing that kind of bothered me was the group project only because most people choose to take an online class because their schedules don’t allow them to have much time to go to class. With that thought in mind, it was sort of hard to communicate with group members. Also since the course was only six weeks, there wasn't much time to get acclimated to the course before starting the group campaign and I feel that’s one of the reason why some people weren't participating with their groups in the beginning. The project itself wasn't bad though, I was able to learn from my teammates and see things from a different perspective. Working collectively to put together a strategy was challenging and interesting. We expanded each other’s ideas and turned our thoughts into a solid strategy. Some of the skills I have learned in helping to create a campaign for any career I will choose in the future. This class was by far one of the best online courses I've taken at VCU.
