My overall experience of the course was extremely iffy. I did enjoy the Google Plus Hangouts and the presentations. It was great to see and understand different social media aspects for different organizations and nonprofits. Most of the presentations had covered material that I have already learned in my prior Mass Communications classes, so on some aspects it was great to review what I know. On the other hand it was tedious to watch almost an hour lecture on material that I already know. The group discussions and discussion boards were great a great way to organize ideas and review the material but the word minimum was hard to do because it was hard sometimes to meet the expected words.
The biggest and frankly most annoying part of this class was the group project. It is extremely hard to work solely online with people that you have never met and some people are not contributing work, meet expected deadlines, or respond back to group emails. I was the group leader and manager where I did the majority of the work, combining the work, recording the presentation, making sure people did their work, following through with people, and making sure we meet your designated deadlines. I was incredibly overwhelmed with the large amount of work to do. In the future, I don’t suggest making a group project for an online class because there is no follow through method and you don’t know people so you can’t be overly persist with them because then people won’t respond back.
I will benefit from this course by knowing that I can be a group leader and that I can get work done without 100 percent help from people or equally contribution for other group members. I already know how to use Twitter, but now have a greater knowledge of how to use Instagram.
