This course by far was one of the most interesting courses I have taken. I am currently taking another online mass communications class, but this one tops it with the amount of retained information, as well as usefulness. I really enjoyed the fact that we got to work for and promote for a nonprofit. This really sets this class apart from other classes that I have taken. For once I actually felt like my work in a class meant something, as well as used my talents to contribute to the success of a nonprofit.
I know everyone is going to say the group project was challenging because essentially it was. It was very difficult to communicate with and get ideas from our group members concerning our team strategy. We learned very quickly that e mail is not an effective way of communicating, so we set up a Facebook group. This aided with some of the missed communication with e-mail, but our group still lacked the in person communication. To me it is essential to have in person communication so that each group member can bounce ideas back and forth. Sometimes it’s easier to collaborate and get ideas from other people in the group versus doing it all by yourself.
I learned a lot about campaigning in various ways. I learned that nonprofits and for profits differed in their campaigning strategy’s. I also learned the benefits and the downfalls of social media on both for profits and nonprofits. I feel like I have benefited a lot from this class. In a sense I got the feeling of what it’s like to essentially work for a nonprofit organization. I got to promote for the organization, as well as contribute to ideas to make the social media campaign more effective. I also have more experience communicating with clients. I was able to connect with Matt on Twitter and get some valuable input as to his needs for each platform.
