Overall I had a very good experience in this course. I enjoyed using Twitter and Instagram in this course to help promote my team’s nonprofit organization. For starters the team I was assigned to was extremely easy to work with, which made working on our group projects easier than I was expecting. We all had really stressful weeks, but we all almost always put in our all for our projects. The only challenging part my group ran into while working out our group assignments was fast communication. Since we only made a group Facebook page instead of exchanging numbers we would have to wait to hear back from each other if we wanted to make changing to our group’s work.
In this course I learned a lot about different ways to use social media to help promote your nonprofit. Also, one huge lesson I learned in this course came from the Google Hangout with Sarah Milston, who is the founder and CEO of The Spark Mill. She told use that before your nonprofit just starts asking for money on social media you need two things. First you do not want to start fundraising on social media unless you have a large social media presence and second you have to build relationships with people before you start asking for money. Also, another benefit I learned from this Google Hangout was how important it is to get individuals to ask for money on behalf of your organization, instead of you just asking for donations. This tip is so important because you are much more likely to raise money for your nonprofit if individuals in your community ask their friends for donations. Also, it is a good idea for your nonprofit to try to partner up with another for profit organization that has a large social media presence to help get more donations.
