Fundraising
Preemptive Love is an organization based on helping children with lifesaving surgeries that in large part occur with donations through fundraising. We have considered all aspects of a successful fundraising campaign and came up with a few ideas on increasing the donations that are brought in.
One way that was discussed was targeting health and fitness apps that are available for Smartphones and tablets. Even though these kids are not obese this could be a great link because most people care about their looks and their health. There are currently really good apps on the market that are free and are able to do any of the following: track caloric intake, track how many steps taken in a day, and more recently record sleep patterns. Ultimately those that strive to change their lifestyle and become healthy are to avoid weight gain but more importantly avoid any type of heart issue. These Iraqi kids want to be able to have the chance to live a healthy life without a heart defect causing further heart and health issues. We think teaming up with a free health or fitness app could be successful. The partnering free app could offer an appealing feature that will have a cost of $3. With purchasing that feature that is one more thing the individual can use towards their lifestyle change while the proceeds will go to Preemptive Love Coalition. #FromHeartToheart
To help draw attention to Preemptive Love I was thinking what if VCU put on a talent show? They would charge people to watch the show and the proceeds would go to Preemptive Love. This is a great strategy because 1) people like having activities to do on campus 2) it’s for a great cause and 3) people can show off their talent. It’s a win-win for everybody. Participants can record their talent and upload it to their social media account and use hash tags such as #lifesaver #childrescue #givetochildren #preemptivelove to help generate views from people all around the world.
Also, they need to form a huge relationship with the community, so what’s better than to connect with them through the local festivals. There are festivals coming up and we were thinking we could pass out flyers with Preemptive Love information on it. We can also have a jar where people can donate money to the organization. If we were to set up a booth we should have customers make bracelets for the children to let them know they have people from around the world thinking about them. I have noticed that children gravitate to stuff like that. If we were to set up a booth to make bracelets, Preemptive Love would have to fund us some money to make it happen. Hosting a bake sale would be a great community connection for the bake sale, this can be hosted on campus in the compass and have all proceeds gone towards the organization. Having it in the compass would be a great plan because so many students walk through campus taking that route and it attracts a lot of people that are coming from/going to the library, Shafer, or Hibbs. As for an athletic function, we could have something similar to a “Broad Street Mile” event. We could host a small football game, race, obstacle course, or any other type of small sporting event. We could have people sign up with teams and pay a fee to join the event with their friends and it would all be something fun for students to participate in and still contribute to a good cause.
If Preemptive Love wants their name to be known and trusted, they should host events on their Facebook page or come up with a slogan like "have you saved a life today?" It’s hard to gain credibility over social media alone. They should really have meet-and-greets with the doctors in person that they can sponsor over Facebook or Instagram. Like a questionnaire or a press meeting of some sort. This is somewhere where people who have heard of it in a local area can come and ask questions or meet patients that are willing to come. Also we can make flyer and post them on the boards around the VCU campus and go to local stores and ask them if we can post flyers in their stores. Some places will allow this and some places may not but it does not hurt to try.
Another way of fundraising through social media could be creating a “super event”. This event could be created on their Facebook page, and be displayed on their Pinterest page. Through the use of super events, donors have the ability to host their own fundraising events. This is a great way to not only increase awareness about the organization, but make donating fun for donors. We feel these “super events” would be Preemptive Loves way of not only giving back to the donors, but making them feel a sense of responsibility to the organization. These events could lead to potential new donors as well as increase donations. These events could be displayed as boards on their Pinterest page as well to increase awareness of these fundraising campaigns.
Multimedia
As far as multimedia is concerned we think that this is the most successful tool that Preemptive Love can offer. They provide live saving surgeries to children which can be used to their advantage with an approach to multimedia. The combination of pictures and videos can help get the message out about Preemptive Love.
Since photographic media is becoming popular we have all taken to our own sites to spread the word about Preemptive Love. We have started using the hash tags #lifesaver and #savealife. With the hash tag #savealife Preemptive Love would show pictures of children who need surgery, this is a great way to connect donors with the children that they are helping through their donations. The hash tag #lifesaver is to promote recognition for the donors, each donor that donates, or each doctor that performs a surgery would get this hash tag as a way of saying “thank you.”
We think that videos of these surgeries could really help the organization gain popularity with both communities as well as gain for-profit partners. These videos can capture the community through inspiration, the inspiration that they are saving lives with the donations they make. Through these videos donors from western nations can actually get a sense of what these children are going though. The videos can contain Matt telling donors about the life saving surgeries that have been performed; this is a way for Matt to personally connect with the community. There can also be before and after documentaries of the children who have had these surgeries. Lastly, the videos can contain daily life for these children, this can provide insight into the daily struggles these children face that many people aren’t aware of. We have taken to our own Instagram accounts and started spreading the word through videos! Tyler has created a video that shows the Preemptive Love logo, and follows it up by providing their website url. Kara has created a video with facts about how many Iraqi children are born with heart defects, and follows the facts up with the web url as well. Look for this video to post sometime within the coming week! We plan on creating videos that spread the word about that the organization is about to get the word out!
