The first organization that pops into many people's minds when they think about breast cancer awareness is Susan G. Komen. The organization has been a staple in the cancer and American society. Often pairing up with celebrities and top organizations to promote breast cancer awareness. Although I do not personally have the disease, I know of many people in my life who have been affected by the disease as it does take a serious toll on one's body. It almost showcases the process of how someone's power can be vanquished from their body. However, Susan G. Komen creates programs that help showcase that the power never leaves one spirit.
Many of my family members have participated in the Race for a Cure walk. There is actually one coming up in Virginia on October 11th in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Tidewater area team has been doing a fantastic job at promoting the event and showcasing the amount of donations and money raised. Currently the top fund rasier is Faith Fout with nearly $12,000. Knowing the amount of intensive money and care that goes into curing cancer and medicine and the research: every little bit counts. There are always local walks in states, so please don't be afraid to attend it if you will be in that area soon.
Susan G. Komen also holds the 3-Day event. It is a 60 mile walk series held all around the country. From Atlanta to Dallas to San Diego. Men and women walk to fund breast cancer research. And 75% of the money goes to funding research. This is a reasurring fact to know exactly where the money is going.
The Google Hangout touched on more donation availbility, however I just want to see more actual event participation through social media.
