Charity Water was without a doubt my favorite of the two non profits we focused on this week. Their cause is most admirable and their reaches on visual media interest me a great amount. The organization, founded by former New York night club promoter Scott Harrison works to bring sanitary drinking water to empoverished and developing nations. That itself stood out to me as a great cause. According to Mashable, Charity Water ranked number one on their list of "Top 10 Inspiring Non-Profits on Instagram" two years ago. They have almost a quarter of a million followers on their Instagram profile and over one thousand posts. Their posts average anywhere from three to six thousand likes and are the thing that stuck out the most to me personally. Their posts stand out to me because it shows not only the efforts they go through to achieve their goal, but also the results that occur thereafter. For example most of the pictures they post are of exceedingly happy children and adults with clean and safe water that Charity Water provides. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and all the smiles are worth a thousand more. The pictures capture the meaning of what Charity Water is all about. Sure their mission is to provide clean water, but their real goal is to make people's lives better because of the abundance of the safe water. The pictures on their Instagram page should serve as an example to other non profits with less of a presence on Instagram. The lesson should be to post more pictures of the results of their efforts and more people will follow. Another thing that stood out to me can be found right on Charity Water's website. On the very top of their homepage, there is an opportunity to start a campaign to raise money for the cause. It stood out to me because it gives people the initiative to donate since they see it immediately and right at the top of the page. I even donated to the cause myself. The site also provides views of campaigns started by other people that you can donate to, and that stands out to me as well because it brings about a sense of familiarity. The normal person would see these campaigns started by others and want to start their own because they see how easy it is to help others.

Great post! I also saw the Mashable article that ranked Charity Water #1 on their list of "Top 10 Most Inspiring Non-Profits on Instagram" which led me to explore their organization further before our Google+ hangout. I was pleasantly surprised to see the very high number of likes on all of their Instagram pictures and the strong viewer engagement. I believe their best tool is their very powerful photos. There is not one photo on their social media accounts that isn't extremely powerful. From just looking through their Instagram, I already feel very compelled to get involved with this cause, like you said! They obviously do a very good job at tugging at the heartstrings of their viewers and generating donations through their powerful imagery.

Charity Water really captivated my attention with their illustrious detail in each photograph. When they say "a picture is worth a thousand words" they aren't kidding. I also visited their homepage and saw the campaign-stater at the top. I was tempted to start one myself but I would much rather focus on the assignment at hand haha! Each picture posted on their instagram was captivating and meaningful, and I firmly believe the captions are the reason behind that. #SeptemberCampaign is short enough and vague enough for people to question its definition and explore more of what the cause has to offer. They definitely make it easier to help other people with their efforts.

I like how you emphasized the goal of the charity and that they show the result of their hard work, because that is exactly what people want to see. Instagram is a great platform for work like this because the strong visual element the charity provides. The interesting thing to me is their twitter account has 1.4 million followers, yet their tweets consist of a variety of content and not just pictures. Why do you think their twitter has so many more followers than their instagram? Do you think the user demographic of each social media has something to do with that?

You made a lot of good points I agree with. Charity Water's Instagram is very successful because of the quality and content of their photos. It shows how helpful the charity is and makes vital use of the platform.I did notice the header for their website to start a campaign and I wonder does that make it a little forward for most people who see the site. I think that their pictures do a much better job of getting to people to donate.

I agree with the belief that it’s what people want to see and what makes their social media presence so successful. People have invested into Charity Water’s cause and want to see just what their investments have created. Social media should be a very personal platform, and letting people see what the money they’ve donated helped create is a very personal thing. It keeps people interested and encourages them to give more. In response to donajelli, I believe that Charity Water’s Twitter is larger than their Instagram because more people use Twitter. The fact that more diverse content is posted in Twitter probably also helps to catch the attention of people interested in things other than pictures.

I agree with you about their instagram. Even though they are not driven by likes and followers it reflects how much people like their cause. I also think it speaks volumes that they are not here to be an organization for social media popularity, but they are here to make a difference. Since they focus on their cause and focus on connecting with others, it shows. It shows that not only do they want to produce clean water, but they want others to be inspired to start a cause. I also like that they make it seem easy to help no matter what age by providing a way to start a campaign.

The Charity Water Instagram is really a joy to look at. The pictures are so well done and the hope that this organization provides can truly be seen whilst scrolling through their Instagram. Charity Water obviously put much time and emphasis to make sure that their page wouldn't just be something providing information about the organization but instead also being inspiring to the viewer. It allows you to really connect to what the organization does and they do so by making it worth stopping your browser to view a little longer. The water they provide gives people a chance to enjoy a common commodity to us and their Instagram page properly displays this.

It is so interesting to see so many people posting discussions about non profit's Instagram pages because it is such a new thing for them to even have. The transition that the organizations are making just shows you that technological advancements can change things for businesses rapidly. It is also amazing to see what a picture can do to people and how it can really draw them in and engage them. I also think it is a great idea that on the Charity:Water website they challenge people to take action by starting their own fundraising campaigns. People love to feel like they are helping a great cause.

I think your post was great! I definitely love Charity Water. Their post on Instagram really caught my attention as well as their website. Everything is put together in a way that gets the attention of viewers. Not to mention Charity Water has a great campaign strategy in which people feel like they are apart of positive change around the world. I agree with you about the Charity Water homepage. The homepage caught my attention instantly. The homepage is a great way to get people to donate. You can't miss it! Furthermore, I am not surprised Charity Water received recognition on Instagram. They definitely depict what a non profit organization is. They inspire their followers through their pictures.
