The organization that i chose to research for this assignment is the Livestrong Foundation, an organization that facilitates support for people affected by cancer. The foundation was founded in 1997 by Lance Armstrong, former professional cyclist and cancer survivor. The Livestrong Foundation has done an amazing job using different fundraising techniques to further their organization.
The company has put many efforts into their fundraising. In 2003, the organization launched the Livestrong brand and has been very successful ever since. To this date the most iconic thing of Livestrong is the yellow Livestrong bracelet, a product that immediately gained great popularity; I remember wearing a Livestrong band for most of middle and high school. The rubber band bracelet became very fashionable and individuals of all ages would be seen wearing them. The bracelets sold for a mere one dollar and to this day the yellow bands have raised approximately 70 million dollar for the charity. They also do an amazing job at social media, with their team of 74 workers.
Although the organization's fundraising tactics were successful, the decision to keep Lance Lance Armstrong as the face of the company, during a time in which he was under so much scrutiny, was a horrible decision. In 2012, Lance Armstrong admitted to taking steroids during his career as a cyclist. The organization was scrutinized and took a lot of gunfire from the media. In 2013, Nike decided to cut contractual ties with Livestrong after a nine year relationship.
