To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) is an organization that is geared towards mental health around the world. They aim to help individuals battling suicide, depression, addiction, etc. The goal is to “encourage, inform, inspire, and invest directly into treatment and recovery.” TWLOHA is also a non-profit organization that was founded by someone who had a close friend that dealt with self-injury and addiction and since then has developed into an organization that devotes efforts into helping others who face similar issues. Another way that TWLOHA succeeds in their campaign is their use of apparel, social media presence (use of #TWLOHA and #FearsVsDreams), and through music as well.
In our first Google hangout with Sarah Milston, she touched on various tools that would play a great role in an organizations social media fundraising campaign. Two that stood out to me that I think contribute to TWLOHA’s campaign successes were the location of the Donation link on their website and that they give people a reason to contribute.
Believe it or not, the location of the donation link makes it easy to donate! Sarah Milston stated that when you login there would be a donate button on the top right of the website, taking you to page where it explains all the different ways you can give and support; but it should be made clear. TWLOHA does just that. Once that button is clicked you are taken to a well-defined icon that shows where as well as how donations can be made, since the viewer already probably has intentions of donating. There is also a link under the FAQ’s that has a lot of answers to various questions a viewer may have in regards to donations. For example, “where does the money go?” and “can I make my own fundraising page?” Links to questions with these answers are extremely helpful in building a rapport and engaging the audience more.
As far as giving people a reason to contribute, this is done with the story of why the organization began itself! With such an unobtrusive name, To Write Love on Her Arms, I’m sure there a lot of people who want to research more about what the organization’s about. Just hearing the name one would probably need a better understanding of what they’re goals and campaign strategies are. Just learning that the founder was someone who had a close friend struggling with these issues and it led to the establishment of this organization is enough for someone to already be interested in donating. Mental health is something that so many people struggle with and should be taken very seriously!
