Social media allows any organization to reach many different audiences that previously may not have been accessible. Gardens for Health is a great example of how a non-profit uses various platforms combined with donations and social media sites to gain funding and raise awareness. Gardens for Health International, is an organization that works to provide families in Rowanda with the education, tools, and opportunities to grow their own food. Created in 2007, it responses to the high rates of childhood malnutrition in this region. Since malnutrition is such a constant struggle Gardens for Health International uses these approachs to promote health and agriculture by: partnering with health centers in Rowands, advocating for policies and programs that support agriculture, and the training of partners in the area who are looking to achieve similar success results.
By using the DonateNow buttons accompanied by various videos and photos of their success stories, they’ve been able to increase engagement and increase giving significantly they've allowed for expedited and easier opportunities for supporters to donate immediately. We also discussed the opportunities to partner with other community organizations to make larger impact, and Gardens for Health International has done just that. Partnering with other rural health centers, the organizations has been able to assist more than 630 farmers and families to grow food to feed themselves by providing seeds, livestock, and education about self-sufficient living practices. Partnering with community organization in Rowanda allows for a better understanding of the needs for that community and helps in boosting awareness and cooperation with other community entities.
As Sarah Milston mentioned, giving should be easy by supporters, so by Gardens for Health International incorporating the link directly to donating it make the process quicker and more convenient for supporters who are looking for a legitimate and fast donation process. This link was used on their Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube accounts. The videos they post allow for a more indepth opportunity to for donors to understand where their money is going and what impact its making. As we discussed, transparency will push more people to donate and continue to donate moving forward. By incorporating many relevant photos and links they capture their audience on a consistent basis. As we have discussed previously, consistency is very important to gain support. This is something they’ve done very well.
