The ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation provides direct support to 1000 children with cancer and their families in Central Virginia on an annual basis. ASK was founded in 1975 by a small group of parents of pediatric cancer patients locally at MCV hospital and has been helping the children who are diagnosed with cancer and their families. Providing support financially as well as emotionally during and after treatment. Ask has used various types of fundraising to reach out to the community. They use direct mail, invitations to fund raising events, and grant proposals. There fundraising events in my opinion is their most successful way from them to raise money locally. Article Fund raising costs were 5% of their contributions however last year they totaled $676,586 in different fundraising events.BBB
The ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation fundraising event The ASK Fun walk and 5K was a success in raising 127,000 in funds this year alone. I participated in the fun walk and 5K this April and found was really a success. Not only do they use the admission to the race to donate, you also can donate to each individual teams that are walking or you can just donate to the Foundation on the website. The individual team donation option page allows you to track the progress of a team designated to a particular child. For example, I walked for Team Gabi. Having the ability to donate to a team really brought a sense of comradery. Each team also sold shirts to wear while walking to represent the team they donated to.
Sarah Miltson had some great ideas but the one I thought was the most resourceful was the web audit. She stated that people who want to go on the site specifically to donate won’t have to search for the link to make a donation. It should be large, eye catching. ASKs website has done that perfectly. It’s larger than most images on the page. The placement is not on the right had corner like Sara suggested, but it does stand out and make it user friendly with a one click process. The link has different options to donate a specific amount or it gives you an option to donate any amount. I think the ASK foundation understands the need of a direct link that is easily accessible. They really do a wonderful job fundraising and individual attention to donors.
