The group I decided to research is Pegasus. They are a non-profit organization created in 1974 by a small group of women who believed therapeutic horseback riding to serve people with special needs in Fairfax County. Therapeutic riding had a successful history in Europe, and these women wanted to bring that to the U.S.. Now, they provide therapy to the special needs, military veterans and at-risk individuals, including disadvantaged youth and abuse survivors. Pegasus hasn't reached its full potential on social media yet. They post regularly on Facebook and have over 1,500 likes, but an organization like this can easily get more recognition than that.
I think the biggest success this organization has had recently is it teaming up with other non-profit organizations. This past year, Pegasus has teamed up with the Red Barn, another non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing horses. That was one of the strategies stated in the Google Hangout, something Pegasus pulled off beautifully this year. They often host events together, which brings people from both parties and gives recognition to both organizations. When they post their information about upcoming events and fundraising, both of the company's links show up so people can donate to either one.
Something I didn't like about their most recent campaign, or at least on the ad that I saw, platform they used for technology. It was a print ad having to do with upcoming events. At the bottom of the ad was a QR code and it asked you to scan it in order to take a quick look at the donation's page. QR codes is not a good way of doing this. We want to this to be easy on us, not hard. It's not that using a QR code is hard, instead of that, I think there should have been a link to twitter or instagram or some way getting the viewer to notice the social media aspects of the organization, and also the donations page. Through Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, Pegasus could advertise a lot easier and more effectively. I think it's a start that they have accounts, but they need to start using them more.
