Group 17: Repaint Iraq
Our main focus will be capturing the attention of the VCU community. We hope to educate and encourage both students and faculty over the next few weeks. We believe that if Repaint Iraq can spread its message throughout our campus, VCU as a whole will reflect our ideals. It is our hope that our efforts will catapult the Preemptive Love Coalitions’ mission into the heads and hearts of all VCU Rams. Perhaps if VCU embraces this sensation, other colleges and universities in the state and country alike will follow suit.
Currently we are utilizing social media in order to get Preemptive Love Coalition’s name and purpose on peoples’ minds. We have organized an Instagram image competition which aims to engage students and staff. We hope participants will enjoy being creative as well as share their experience with their friends and family. Awareness is very key to the Preemptive Love Coalitions success, and we hope this activity will stimulate our target audience.
In addition to Instagram, we have been alerting the public via Twitter as to all of our group happenings. We strive to keep followers up to date with will all opportunities to get involved.
Given the fact that we only have 2 more weeks to function, we hope to garnish more followers and fans by hitting VCU campus on foot. We look forward to conducting fun surveys face to face with those we encounter on Monroe Park Campus. We will be asking questions to produce useable data, and we will be offering insight and guidance. We hope are presence on campus will lead to people looking us up on Instagram and Twiiter. The bottom line is that we need to increase are audience size. We can not help the Preemptive Love Coalition if nobody is listening.
We have designed a variety of fundraisers we hope to plug as we transverse VCU. We anticipate our efforts will create buzz and interest regarding these programs.
Fundraisers:
VCU Athletics are an integral part of college life. We hope to tap into this network by seeking donations at sporting events. As RepaintIraq, we intend to charge $1 for face “painting” at all home games. People can adorn their faces with VCU’s colors in an effort to show their school spirit, but their dollar will cover more than the cost of paint. The proceeds will be collected and sent to the Preemptive Love Coalitions headquarters for processing. We believe this fun project will allow for Preemptive Love Coalition to generate awareness and funds. We will also track the use of all donations and keep track of results on our Facebook page.
Pairing with a local business is something that we have learned can be effective. We hope to partner with a local business in order to double our proceeds. If we can get a business to agree to match what we make with face painting then we could quickly double are donations. Perhaps if we are successful, our efforts will attract the attention of larger businesses.
Holidays are a traditional time to be generous. We hope that are work over the next two weeks will continue to be felt by students throughout the rest of the semester. We will suggest to students that they host Halloween Parties and donate the proceeds to the Preemptive Love Coalition. If hosts charge $5 at the door and guest are provided with simple refreshments, snacks, and hospitality many will be inclined to attend. If the overhead costs can be kept low, the excess profit would make for great donations. Repaint Iraq will encourage these events and help willing hosts organize safe parties as well as recommend how to provide inexpensive food and drink.
Also Christmas and Hanukkah are approaching. If Repaint Iraq can inspire people to donate their gifts like Charity Water convinced people to donate their birthdays, we imagine a surplus of income could be generated. In order to spread this concept, we will utilize all of our social media platforms to suggest the idea of asking for donations for the holidays. We will also provide clear instructions on how to donate to the Preemptive Love Coalition.
These are a few ideas we think could be effective, and we look forward to implementing them over the next few weeks. It is our hope that the VCU community rallies around the Preemptive Love Coalition's mission and takes pride that VCU as a whole has made such a great impact. We want this to be a universal experience for students and faculty. We hope VCU rams will be proud that their school was the first of many to make a change. Our goal is that people share comments and photos on a variety of social media reflecting on their part in this mission. With time perhaps the entire VCU network will be part of this, and schools and cities around the country will want to follow our lead.
Multi media is very important to us. We believe that seeing is believing, and not enough people are seeing us or the Preemptive Love Coalition. We intend to display a plethora of images and information regarding the Coalition’s purpose on our Instragram and Twitter accounts, and we also hope people will share their own perspectives with their personal networks. Also as we want to film are interactions on campus so those who we do not intercept can witness all the action. We hope the videos will be fun and informative. If we can cause a phenomenon within VCU, then it should not be long to it furthers its sprawl.
One thing Preemptive Love Coalition does not have is an app. Our group believes that an app with all updates, happenings, and opportunities would be a great central platform for the Preemptive Love Coalition. On it, people could track donations and tally their effect. Both information and fundraisers could be supported with it. An app could be a one stop shop for all VCU rams to stay in touch with PLC.
In conclusion, we hope that the Preemptive Love Coalition's Instagram will become a popular medium for VCU rams, and that they embrace the material on it. Twitter will be our means of communication, while Facebook will be bulletin board for tracking VCU’s response to this campaign. Pinterest will continue to tell relevant stories regarding Iraq, and YouTube will house all of our video content.
In the mean time:
Kurtis Dement has already initiated contact with the VCU athletic department in hopes of arranging our face painting project. He will continue to oversee and edit our content, as well as seek out partner opportunities.
Eric Fisher has begun contacting local businesses as well as national business like Target and Applebees in hopes of gaining a sponsor. He will assist in interacting with students on campus.
Evan Flynn will continue to link all of our group members together, and he will continue to maintain Twitter. He will also assist in interacting with students on campus, and he will provide filming support.
Blake Mirzayan has nearly completed our survey and he will be in charge of conducting it. He will lead our groups efforts on campus, and will be our main representative interacting with rams.
Ty Wilkinson Works with the VCU outdoor adventure program, and he currently is investigating opportunities to fundraise through thier outings, He will also try to establish an outlet for our message to meet VCU students and faculty.
Lauren Walker works with “The Well” here at VCU, and we hope her contact will allow for exposure and awareness opportunities. She will continue to head our Instagram image competition as well.
