Upon further discussion, Group 8 decided that we could focus more on reaching out to the community here in Richmond and expand the reach of the World Pediatric Project. A key part to this strategy is a flyer campaign around campus and town that conveys at a local level what the WPP stands for and where people can go for more information on the cause. The flyer campaign is to transition into the technology side, where we plan to help improve upon their Instagram and Pinterest site, and possibly other sites such as YouTube, Tumblr, and Reddit as well. Most importantly we plan to develop a hashtag (#everychanceforchildhood) to be used in tandem with the other hashtags related to the WPP. This will give us an opportunity to establish our campaign identity and unite all social media content under one tag across multiple platforms. We also briefly spoke of creating a video to further explain the cause for those who don’t know as much about it.
Group Responsibilities
Fliers for RVA campaign: Eli Ruckman, Dianna Duddy, and Matt Allan will work to create the fliers with all necessary information and pictures, and Jason Kidd and Michael Schrader will work to distribute and post them around both campus and the city.
Social Media Posting/Advertising: Matt Allan will work on the bulk of social media advertising, mainly focusing on Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram. Eli Ruckman will work on Tumblr and Instagram, and everyone in the group will work to get the word out on Facebook. (We have decided to use #everychanceforchildhood as the hashtag to tie our campaign back to the WPP and all their social media outlets) We further explained our goals for the social media outlets below.
Facebook - Facebook should be a stepping stone to the other more helpful sites the WPP has. The main website is pretty straightforward but facebook should function as an introductory page before certain people get into the main website as many might be deterred to visit a dedicated website over a social media page first.
Twitter - We determined that Twitter should be used as a means to incite dialogue and answer questions. As group member Matt Allan said “Maybe twitter could be used to create short one way dialogues such as answering questions or spotlighting once a week a different aspect of the struggle WPP faces in providing health services and developing health services.”
Instagram/Pinterest - Instead of posting pictures of those sickly children in third world countries and possibly facing copyright claims, we propose an Instagram campaign of people sharing pictures of their own childhood or pictures/video of current families with children with captions discussing the importance of a good childhood and using our hashtag #everychanceforchildhood to show that everyone deserves a great childhood
Tumblr - Sites with large audiences like Tumblr are hard to post to and get noticed, but we determined that we could upload photos and videos related to WPP to the site and use our hashtag combined with the WPP’s hashtags to draw those already following the WPP to our campaign.
Video to Raise Awareness: Matt Allan, Michael Schrader, Dianna Duddy, Jason Kidd, and Eli Ruckman will work on filming and possibly speaking in the video, and Eli Ruckman will edit the video. The video will be filmed in Richmond and possibly on campus and feature information about the WPP and the great work they do
