Charity water is a non-profit organization founded in 2006 by Scott Harrison, former nightclub owner in New York. Charity Water’s mission is to ensure clean and safe drinking water every single person in the world. I found it very interesting when Paul Young, the digital director, mentioned that the organization does not spend money for advertising and marketing rather they rely heavily on social media to disseminate their message.
When I first visited their Instagram, I noticed that they have a very great following consisting of 227 thousand followers and also that they have over one thousand posts which means they are very active on the platform. Upon looking at the photos posted, a word to describe their page is happiness. The organization posts very vivid, high-quality photos of people who are clearly happy because they have accessibility to clean and safe water. They post photos of individuals, mostly young children and their stories regarding access to clean drinking water, and it works, which is apparent because of the like count. Their photos also very popular; their post have recently averages around four thousand likes, which is great. Charity water’s social media strategy on Instagram is very successful and there is really no need to put funds into advertisements and marketing.

I also appreciate good photography. I’m not sure if it always evokes happiness, though. It does somehow pull the audience in deeper and makes you want to know why the photo is important. Photography like this makes the viewer feel something, depending on the content. Is the person in the photo sad, happy, or angry? These are all emotions that a well-produced photo can capture. I admire how this organization is more devoted to hiring people to make this happen, rather than using lots of their funds to pay for expensive advertising. Also, 227,000 followers is an amazing number! And their followers on Instagram will probably grow to exceed that amount with their great photos once their awareness spreads more rapidly.

I like how this organization does not spend money on advertising and marketing it makes it different as well as doesn't make it seem like they are asking for money. Their social media alone promotes their cause which is very respectable. I like how they focus on the stories of people and showing a plain view of their happiness. A picture is worth a thousand words so I appreciate the visual they try to show their followers. Before I took this class I actually became aware of this organization through a picture on instagram a friend showed me. It is evident that instagram is working well for this organization.
