Our nonprofit client, Preemptive Love Coalition is a foundation that works to help the vast amount of Iraqi children waiting on a backlog for lifesaving heart surgeries, after being born with health defects. Therefore, the objective of our campaign is to raise awareness of the organization’s cause locally and in Iraq, which will hopefully translate to an increase in donations. Since this is an operation regarding hearts and can only be carried out if the nonprofit has the necessary funds, we must find a way to connect with the people overseas. The biggest problem with people connecting is feeling like they can’t relate to one another, this is where the language barrier and cultural differences play a huge role. We must find a way to tear down those walls, and utilize body language as it can be considered as universal.
For the campaign, we will start a movement and hashtag under the name “Operation Heart-2-Heart” and #operationH2H. The concept behind this is building a connection not only between the donors and the recipients but also doctors, survivors, and anyone around the world that connects with the cause. The foundation needs money, and people who donate want to see where that money goes and if the organization is truly making a difference. On Instagram and Twitter there will be a hashtag album made under that name and updated regularly so people can see that the coalition is functioning and saving lives. Twitter will feature facts about Preemptive Love Coalition, the movement, the children in Iraq, and the surgeries, which will generate conversation pertaining to the new hashtag trend. It will also keep people up-to-date on any breaking news concerning any of the topics mentioned above.
Instagram will have short videos or gifs of diverse individuals tracing a heart with their finger over their heart, and then they point to the camera offering a sense of connection and support. This shows that we are aware, we understand, and that we are working to help the Iraqi children. It is a sign for hope and a reminder that their hearts are just the same as ours no matter the race, location, or life-style. Our hearts all function the same. In order to generate response documenters, volunteers, nurses, surgeons, or whoever can record Iraqi children and any of the volunteers making the same motion back to those raising awareness indicating that the message was received well, and they hear what we are trying to do. Team members Clare Chang and Sohana Waqar will make these preliminary videos.
In addition to the videos, photos released by the PLC will be tagged with the hashtag #operationH2H, and a caption about the organization or information about the need for heart surgeries in Iraq as well as a link that will direct people back to the homepage website of the organization. These photos will give the audience a quick visual and a bit of information that they can share across social media platforms. Connor Wood and Anthony Hunt will make these photos, which will be used by the group as part of the Instagram engagement portion of the class.
The movement could also spark some donations through Facebook posts of stories of real children and operations in collaboration to a GoFundMe page. In order to spark conversation on Facebook Alexis Stroman and Keith Kaufelt will facilitate discussion, ask questions, and share it on Facebook. This is a strategy/campaign that can really be taken as far as the public wants. We will start the discussion in the beginning but hopefully aim to have the public take over and allow them to choose which topics they want to discuss. Will people challenge friends and family to donate or offer support through a heart tracing video of their own? We have already seen the power of monetary donations. What can they do for The Preemptive Love Coalition?
