Doctors without Borders UK, Was founded in 1971 is an emergency response medical organization. Doctors without Borders UK founded by doctors who felt unsatisfied with how the Red Cross responded in a range of situations like emergency crisis’s, and large outbreaks like that the current situation with the Ebola virus. To spread awareness of current medical situations Doctors without Borders use social media platform to requesting English speaking countries, UN members, and governments to become more active in the fight of outbreaks and health care.
Doctors without Borders is unique to the other nonprofits we have spoken about because it is considered an emergency relief organization. They really want to be able to show the public what is happening on the ground in real time. Photographic material is filtered through to make sure consent is allowed and a waiver is signed. Pinterest is a platform they can use to show faces of the work they do. Their Pinterest page has 23 boards that focus current cases like Ebola, quotes and campaigns. I think that use of the click through feature to link to their page and provide their audience as a guide and accessible way to share news or apply for a job. They seem to use Pinterest as a way to get background information on the organization.
Charity Water’s mission is to bring clean water worldwide and promote healthy living. Charity water is a younger nonprofit however is making a real presence lately. They really understand the concept of a brand that is long lasting and vocalizes the importance of the inspirational stories. They work to keep longstanding relationships active donors. The method of relying more on word of mouth through social media due to the lack of funding for social media stunts the ability to spread awareness as quickly as they would like. However, social media platforms such as Twitter, not to my surprise, they have over 1.44 million followers. The interactivity of Twitter allows an interaction with their followers with replies and retweets. Although their Pinterest page has over 7,000 followers I feel that they could use Pinterest more to allow people to know more about their background and their goals as a nonprofit. It isn’t updated as often as Twitter but tools offered like the Creative Fundraising board that provides a different way to fundraise.
