Miracle Flights For Kids is a non-profit organization that offers flights to ill children and their struggling families, so that they can receive medical care in places other than their town or city. The Organization is the leader in its field and has provided over 88,000 flights to date.
Miracle Flights for Kid I very active on twitter. When logging on their twitter account the first thing you notice is that they follow the golden rule, they use lots and lots pictures—and some video too. Roughly every tweet is a picture of smiling child or a child with their parents and included is a short blurb/caption about where the child came from and where they are. I thought this was particularly interesting because it speaks to their cause of moving children from one place to another. The fact that they post pictures of the children in hospitals/ at their destination lets donors know that their money helped accomplish that. Much like Charity Water and their GPS system, which reassures donors that their money is being spent towards the cause they are supporting, MFFK does this by posting pictures of the kids at their destination. However, the only difference is that donors of Charity Water can see exactly what their dollar is doing specifically, but donors of MFKK must assume their dollar somehow had to do with the smiling faces on the twitter account.
Although there were no scholarly articles written on this awesome charity, they are very active in sectors outside of the health field. The charity recently partnered with Saks Fifth Avenue in a fundraiser fashion show, in which the proceeds went to the non-profit. It is refreshing to see a non-profit that is willing to break its boundaries and reach out to an unexpected industry such as fashion in order to benefit children.
On twitter, the organization also takes time to have fun and support other causes. Unlike Charity Water, MFFK openly supported the ALS Ice Bucket challenge. They posted a video to their twitter of one of their staffers dumping the ice cold bucket of water on his head, in support of the cause. Another difference in MFFK is that they have relationships with airlines and pilots, and children love things like that. Because of this, they are presented with many opportunities to make children happy by introducing them to pilots and their cockpits, and taking more cute pictures to post on their twitter.
In conclusion although the Miracle Flights For Kids twitter account is nothing more than cute pictures and office tom-foolery, they do good work and it shows in their tweets. This, I imagine is one of the reasons they have donors, and why they have been able to provide over 88,000 flights to children.
