Some people may say that I am too old but I am not afraid to admit that I am STILL a huge wrestling fan. From the moves, to the storylines to the theatrics it consistently keeps me hooked. I am one of the millions of viewers each week that tune into Monday Night Raw and Friday Night Smackdown. And it is safe to say that throughout this constant fake television violence, I have learned more about breast cancer through World Wrestling Entertainment's (WWE) partnership with Susan G. Komen.
For the third year in a row, Susan G. Komen will be partnering up to help fight breast cancer through social media and WWEShop.com. WWE Superstars and Divas are known for selling merchandise to their fans on a regular basis. This brings in a lot of revenue for WWE as people consistently buy up their merchandise. During the month of October, WWE will take 20% of their procedes from speciality inspired Breast cancer awareness shirts and donate it to Susan G. Komen. This was successful in 2012 with their famous "Rise Above Cancer" campaign led by WWE Superstar John Cena. In 2012, World Wrestling Entertainment raised over one million dollars in support for the cause and to raise awareness for breast cancer. Social media plays a huge role in this as WWE Superstars and Divas have huge followings on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. John Cena has nearly 7 million followers. When taking into account his Susan G. Komen promotion through Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. While also adding in the promotion that they do on television, I am looking forward to the growth that this will cause in the new 2014 campaign.
This campaign has helped me become more aware of the cause and has also influenced me to donate more to breast cancer awareness. At the end of the day this what we are all searching for and fighting for. And now for the first time, WWE fans can donate $1, $5 or $10 upon checkout from WWEShop.com with all proceeds benefiting Susan G. Komen. This will help the campaign in the long run because it's not about the 20% it offers a straight way donation, making it more legitimate.
