The nonprofit organization that I decided to discuss was the Trevor Project. The Trevor Project is an organization that raises awareness for and help provide crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning LBGTQ people ages 13-24. This is an organization that I was not aware even existed. I think because I am not directly affiliated with anyone that I know for sure is going through issues with their sexuality, I just did not assume there was an organization like this. Like most other nonprofit organizations that we discussed this semester, social media is very important for a nonprofit organization to thrive.
The Trevor Project has successfully used Pinterest to help gain supporters and awareness. As I look onto their Pinterest, I notice that they do not have almost 2,000 followers, which is not a lot, but I would not say that that does not mean that this organization is not being successful. For example, when I go onto Pinterest, I do not have many followers, but I do re-pin a lot pf quotes, apparel, and other merchandise. Often, I will even go to the initial posters website if I like what I just pinned. The concept of Pinterest is a good idea because you can search a couple of words and so many different things will come up in to relation of what you just searched. Also, a user can re-pin something and a user can share the things with their followers.
The Trevor Project, has implemented apparel into their organization. This is a good idea because people wearing this organizations merchandise also brings awareness for the cause. The Trevor Project is different from other non profit organizations that we have discussed in this course thus far, because they have understood how to use Pinterest as a stable platform for their organization. Also, some of the other of non profit organizations have not understood how to transfer their Twitter and Facebook followers to Pinterest. According to looktothestars, a website that shows celebritiy supporters of different organizations, people such as adam Lambert, Julianne Hough, and Lance Bass all support this cause. www.looktothestars.org/charity/the-trevor-project. This is important because celebrity involvement helps raise awareness for non profit organizations such as this one. This organization has also created events in support of their cause, which is significant to this organizations growth. If people know that they can physically go to an event to support, then that will help gain followers. www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/27/40-days-trevor-project_n_5724546.html
