The first time I heard of Doctor's Without Borders, I was in high school. One of my family members was interested in working with the non-profit but I had no idea what the organization was truly about. Overtime I found out that Doctor's Without Borders is one of the most legitimate organizations out there and are willing to help any one and any cause. This is what makes them a step above the rest.
On the social media spectrum, Doctor's Without Borders is visually pretty successful. The organization has about 750,000 likes on the most Populated social media site, Facebook. While also having nearing 500,000 followers on Twitter for their Doctor's Without Borders USA account. This all comes from the connection that the organizatino tries to make not only with their words but their visual appeal. As Nick Owens discussed in his Google Hangout, they try to focus on bringing as many visual images to the table as possible. The talent of their photographers is amazing because they are able to capture emotion within a single frame.
The talent of the photographers help their visual appeal especially when it comes to social media sites such as Pinterest and Instagram. The pictures feel intimate and automatic. They offer you the ability to feel as if you are with them in the moment. This is especially true for the Instagram page as they are more focused on movement pieces and photographs. Where as Pinterest is more geared toward a varied collage of photographs.
Doctor's Without Borders also dabbles within Tumblr. This social media site is more cult-based but none the less Doctor's Without Borders has a nice following and a solid average of notes to follow on the site. Most people have tended to steer away from Tumblr but Doctor's Without Borders is not afraid to drive toward it. And that makes me like their style a little more. The have taken to Tumblr to touch topics such as HIV, AIDS, and health issues in countries that do not recieve that much help such as Haiti. This adds more dimensions to their brand as it shows that they are not afraid to be raw, they are not afraid to be honest and real. This will continue to help their social media if they continue to dabble into everything and let it grow naturally. I even showed some of my friends their social media sites and now they are more interested in learning more about Doctor's Without Borders.
