(RED). A campaign that on its on says more than enough; their goal is to help raise money and awareness for aids. Along with its ingenious name, the marketing is impeccable with this organization. They have done and are doing what every non-profit organization is after- the RED campaign is everywhere. I chose to see how RED marketed themselves through the popular virtual pin board known as Pinterest. Pinterest was hard for me to navigate, I do have an account, but have never had to search for a specific page which I thought was difficult and concerning. Once I found the Pinterest board I was bombarded with lots of color and visually stimulating images. As mentioned in the class lectures, visual advertising can be an amazing tool if utilized well. With visual apps becoming more and more popular this is the perfect time for organizations to hop on board! We learned that because these campaigns are communicating with their consumers through images it is important to be able to capture your message in either a still life moment, snap shot or a short clip. In this case Pinterest is rather interesting to me because it allows you to not only post the picture, but clicking on the pictures will ultimately take you to another web URL which is so handy and convenient especially for all these non profit organizations who want to make it as easy as possible for the public to get involved. Another amazing thing that Pinterest offers is the option to “heart” images and revisit them later; that is one of my favorite features of this media site.
RED in particular does some amazing things with their visual marketing and because of this it stands them out in the crowd of all other non profit organizations. Their quality of photos are rich and full of life, utilizing lots of color, people from the campaign, yummy food, and products that we as consumers can buy and all while donating a little each time to help out for their cause. This is the main thing, in my opinion that stands them out amongst the rest. RED has managed to work with many companies such as Beats by Dre and Apple to help promote who they are and help to raise money and awareness. These companies have agreed to donate each and every time a customer purchases one of their products specifically in the color red. It a rather brilliant idea; and they don’t stop there. While scoping out their Pinterest page, I also came across the use of hash tags in numerous pictures such as, #eatRED, #drinkRED, and #buyRED. These hash tags allow for the idea of connectivity. These hash tags can be linked beyond Pinterest, to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc. RED knows what they are doing and I think that the collaboration with other companies is something that has really benefitted them and could benefit many other non profit organizations.
