I chose to discuss the Paull Young, Charity Water Google Hangout. Like many of the other organizations that we have discussed in this class thus far, I had never heard of Charity Water. I like the idea of them wanting to reinvent charity. I feel as though many charities now-a-days. I also liked that this organization would rather inspire versus just collecting donations. I believe that this is key when you think about certain global issues like people not having access to clean water. This is an issue that is not going to go away, and so the idea that Charity Water wants to create long lasting relationships seems as though it is going to be a key part of this organizations success. This organization also makes sure that they make sure that donations go directly to the cause, and they want donors to have more than just a one sided relationship. They wanted to give people the opportunity to know that not only is your money important, but your support is important as well.
I was really surprised that this organization does not use marketing or advertising, but that also shows the power of social media. Their main source of promotion is through word of mouth and social media. Its good that they do not have to use some of their proceeds to promote themselves, and this ensures that all of their donations will be used to help people receive clean water around the world.
One of the best of the strategies that this organization used, that I thought was most important was their idea to share different stories of different people that may not have been affected by the lack of access to water, but have tried to help this organization. I think that this is a good way to gain support because people will donate to a cause if they feel like they can sympathize with someone's story. They also include pictures to these stories, and which also helps gains supporters. I think they have a good understanding of in this time period, how information travels and what ways that their organization can grow through social media. This organization really seems to understand the factor of having people share and spread their ideas. I think Paull makes a good point about the ALS Bucket Challenge. He said he made a donation, and he did receive a thank you email, but he did mention that after that he did not receive anything else. I think that this is important that people know that the organization that they are donating to is thankful for their donations, and this helps keep the relationship alive.
