Despite the fact that both causes are equally important, the Identity of Charity Water and their philosophy on social media stood out to me much more when compared with Doctors Without Borders. Their brand is incredibly refined, with a very aesthetically pleasing website that is reflected by the quality of their videos and photography on instagram. Using much brighter colors in their posts, they automatically create a much brighter mood that is more welcoming to the people they follow. I hadn’t really heard of the organization before, which surprised me because they had been named the 4th best nonprofit on the web by topnonprofits.com, with almost 1.5 million twitter followers, 300 thousand facebook likes, and 227 thousand followers on instagram, they clearly have a very large presence. Paul Young was very enthusiastic about the work that he and Charity Water are doing which is always incredibly important for a representative of the organization, because it is shown in the work that he is putting out for them. He is also very smart about the movement of their posts, and getting the people following them to spread their stories instead of paying facebook to display it to all of their followers is a much wiser plan of action. Their work with the Youtube user pewdiepie definitely stood out the most. I learned of him from my little brother who watches too many youtube videos of video games a while back, but Charity Water’s ability to recognize such a niche influencer that singlehandedly helped raise half a million dollars in birthday donations from young males is unheard of. Gamers are stereotyped as lazy and indifferent but when someone they look up to is addressing them, their entire mentality seems to change. So the fact that Charity Water engages their followers and creates a relationship with them, and then uses them as a channel to spread word of their work is incredibly intelligent. Being a nonprofit, they already have very limited resources that are needed much more in other parts of the world, so by allowing everyone to increase views within their communities and friend groups is almost like a donation in and of itself. They are an extraordinary organization that is tackling an issue that affects millions of people worldwide, and their fundraisers and methods for donations are very innovative. For example, their birthday donation strategy is one of the most amazing that I have heard of.
