We turn on our tap at home and water comes out. It cleans our clothes, washes our dishes, promotes hygiene, and most importantly is always available for us to drink. Sadly, it is not available to many people across the world. The feeling of being thirsty is not easily satisfied by walking into your kitchen and drinking safe water. While looking at the Charity Water website I ran across a very interesting fact. People there spend over 40 billion hours walking to gather water alone. Western society cannot even fathom struggling in such a way just to survive. Charity Water takes on the very daunting task of hydrating these deprived areas of the world. They use technology and through many different methods do what they can to reach their goal.
I checked out some of Charity Water's social media sources but there was one that stood out for me. Their Instagram does not just represent the average kind of pictures that many non-profit organizations post on their social media websites. By only scrolling through the pictures quickly it can instantly be recognized that these pictures pop out at you. Many pictures display people with that Charity Water has helped at some point. There is a bit of variety with some posts having a fun and lighthearted nature to them. The pictures that actually show physical water are brilliantly photographed. The water is emphasized in the forefront with sharp clarity while the person touching the water is gently faded as part of the background image. The photographs are dynamic with great lighting and just overall very well done. It can easily be seen that there was much emphasis placed on the quality of the pictures.
Charity Water is having great success on their Instagram page with over 227,000 followers. They are also very active posters with over 1,000 posts. Many non-profits struggle with Instagram as it can be a very difficult place to gain much exposure. Charity Water made a great decision by staying very simple. They may mostly be pictures of people and water but the elegance of the photos makes them enjoyable to view. The comments display information on the organization and campaigns that they are attempting to get donations for. The pictures themselves are the treat to the viewer and the call to action is given after receiving this treat. They didn't only make their Instagram informational but also entertaining.
