Easter Seals is an international organization that helps individuals with special needs and disabilities through medical rehabilitation, employment opportunities, children’s services, senior services, and recreation. The organization’s first campaign in 1934 used personally designed seals by cartoonist J.H. Donahey to be placed on envelopes and letters as a means to be used by the organizations’ donors. The first “seal” campaign in 1934 was so successful, the company expanded and grew through grassroots marketing and embraced the official Easter Seal name in 1967 (Easter Seals).
The Easter Seals pinterest page was the most interactive and updated. They do not have a singular instagram, tumblr, or vine, but have multiple instagram, tumblr, and vine pages for different locations around the world. The Easter Seals do have a Youtube page that has been active since the creation of the platform, but has only been updated in the past year and not at regular intervals. Their pinterest page has a total of 133 pins and twelve boards right now, with 400+ followers as well. Their page consists of stats, showing individuals with disabilities living life and having fun, and documenting campaigns from different Easter Seal associations across the world. It also shows that the Easter Seals follow almost all of their followers back, helping foster a better connection with their donors. Pinterest is the only platform from the list we could choose from that is operated by Easter Seal headquarters (Easter Seal Pinterest).
Pinterest is all about using visual aids and Easter Seals partnered up with MassMutual to utilize that. With every picture you take with a loved one in a pre-approved photo booth and upload with the hashtag #loveisagift, one dollar is donated to the Easter Seals by MassMutual. This campaign was concentrated in the Boston area by the local Easter Seals association and is available until November 30th. I think this campaign would garner more attention if they offered anyone, anywhere to upload a picture not from a photo booth to participate, since they help people worldwide, and not just in Boston (Bostinno). The Easter Seal headquarters set up a campaign that was nationwide with partner Safeway to share awareness for individuals with disabilities by downloading a pre approved picture and sharing it through facebook and twitter. Sharing a visual aid doesn’t have to be designated for just one social media platform, and using Pinterest, which is all visual aids, would help spread their cause further (Easter Seals).
